Painted in a semi-abstract fashion, these paintings are created through a process of throwing, dripping and pouring paint, I don’t actually use a paintbrush when creating them. My hands and gravity are my tools. I submerge my hands in paint, letting the paint fall freely and naturally from my hands, throwing and guiding the stream of paint, letting it drip from my fingers onto the canvas creating it’s own unique and organic forms and patterns. I pour puddles of paint onto the canvas and manipulate the path and flow by tilting the canvas in all directions. Each painting is well thought out and planned before hand, from the imagery to the colours, foregrounds and backgrounds. Experience has taught me a lot on how to mix my paint and colours in a way to achieve the look I want but of course there are always surprises and blips along the way. Creating paintings like this is actually a long slow process, I’ll spend almost an entire day going back and forth monitoring and adjusting the paint, observing and manipulating the flow while letting gravity run its course. It’s not uncommon for me to spend a good 15-20 minutes looking over a single puddle of paint, closely observing it’s current and course. I’m always excited to pour new paint, waiting to see what fate has in store. So for me there’s a certain natural element to this type of painting that always keeps it fresh and interesting.
